What engines are available on the BMW 1 Series?
The BMW 1 Series is available in two standard versions. The BMW 120 has a 168bhp 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine with mild hybrid technology and front-wheel drive, hitting 0-62mph in 7.8 seconds and officially averaging 52.3mpg. The BMW 123 has a more powerful 215bhp 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with mild hybrid technology and four-wheel drive, cutting the sprint to 6.3 seconds. Both have a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox as standard. A high-performance M135 variant is also available.
How practical is the BMW 1 Series?
Front space is generous - more head and leg room than the Audi A3 and Mercedes A-Class - but the boot is not quite so good. The 120 and 123 offer just 300 litres due to their mild hybrid battery. The rear seats fold in a 60/40 split as standard, with a more versatile 40/20/40 split available as an option. Six-footers can fit in the back, though head room is a little tight.
