What happens if I have exceeded my annual mileage limit?

The total cost of a lease deal is based on vehicle depreciation. Mileage has a direct impact on the residual value of a car, and this is considered when your monthly payments are calculated based on the annual mileage you choose.

Any miles you do over your agreed limit incur a charge to compensate the leasing company for the additional depreciation.

This is charged on a pence per mile basis and it can vary between funders. The exact cost per excess mile will be outlined in your finance documentation, and you’ll be billed after your lease van has been collected.

Keep in mind that the depreciation is partly based on the mileage throughout your whole lease. With a 10,000-mile annual limit, you have a total limit of 30,000 miles over a three-year lease deal.

If you go under 10,000 miles one year and over the next, this is fine, if your total mileage at the end of the lease is no more than 30,000.
